Harold & Kumar (Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle / Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay / A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas) (Ultimate Collector's Edition) [Blu-ray]

Gift for my Husband
My husband loves the Harold and Kumar movies, so when I saw that there was a Blu-ray edition out with a collectible metal case, I was thrilled! He had them on DVD and is slowly swapping his movies from DVD to Blu-ray. I bought this for him for Christmas and it he loved it! My only problem is that the metal case was slightly dented... but that probably happened during shipping.

funny
i love this movies harold and kumar are so funny and this box set is great. so happy i found it

3rd one's a charm
Hysterical to say the least. The 2 stoners are back for more adventure. I met Kal Penn a long time ago but he was so cool it's not even funny. So I guess you could say I have a connection with the Harold and Kumar series. I enjoyed every minute of it.
Plus the hot girls in it didn't hurt LOL

We Come in Peace [Blu-ray]

This isn't the Dolph Lundgren movie. That's "I Come In Peace", retitled "Dark Angel".

But not the TV series "Dark Angel" starring Jessica Alba.

Joseph & The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat [Blu-ray]

You and Your Dreamcoat, Ahead of Your Time!
The film approach to this musical was a smart move-- the "we'll tape a performance" approach is kinda cheesy. The sets were great, especially the desert scene, and the costumes were imaginative. The songs were very nice; they go from a catchy jingle-type advertisement for "Jacob and Sons" to a Western theme ("One More Angel in Heaven"), to a somewhat 1920's approach in "Potiphar," to a 1960's Austin Powers-ish "Go Go Joseph", to the bluesy Elvis-themed "Song of the King", and to the Jamaican "Benjamin Calypso."

Donny Osmond shines as Joseph: he can really sing! Richard Attenborough was very good as Jacob, who sang a few lines and was actually pretty good at it! Mrs. Potiphar (Joan Collins) was hilarious, as was Robert Torti as Pharaoh "The King." (He was my dad's favorite character; he's watched the Pharaoh's song about a million times.) The eleven brothers are really funny, too! The...

Amazing--- and not just in the title...
Ever since I saw this show on stage in LA about ten years ago, I've been dying to have a copy I could watch over and over and over... Well, that day has come. I saw the video version on a recent trip to London-- and am sold on it's value. The cast is amazing, lead by Donny Osmond's unflappable vocal ability. Unlike the cats video, no songs have been cut out, and no songs have been shortened, with the possible exception of the Joseph Megamix, which has been revamped to serve as an end credit theme. The sets have been built as immersive environments, not a filmed version of the stage show. Also of note-- a preview before the show of the new production of Jesus Christ Superstar set to come to video this Easter!

A Video Worth the Wait
After seeing the teaser ad for this production on the Cats video, I was looking forward to the chance to see it. I'd known about Joseph for years, but had never had the chance to see it on stage. I'm pleased to report that the video was worth the wait.

The performers are fantastic. I'd not heard anything of Donny Osmond since his teen idol days, and was pleased to find that he has an even better voice than I'd remembered. Maria Friedman (Narrator) is also a joy to see and hear. In fact, all of the music throughout is so infectious that I've found myself humming Joseph songs during lulls at work - and at home - and in the car, well, you get the picture.

The sets are colorful and imaginative (my daughter especially enjoys the large Egyptian head with the moving eyes used during the Pharoh's song (I did have to explain the heavy references to Elvis Presley, but then she's only 5 -- give her time). And the costumers deserve a round of applause for the title...

V for Vendetta / Watchmen

2 of my favorite movies at a great price
When my sons were home for the holidays, we planned a movie night, and made a list of our favorite movies. My oldest son took both movies, V for Vendetta and Watchmen, when he moved out. When I looked on Amazon to replace the movies, I found this "double feature" for less than $5. I couldn't pass up that deal. We watched and enjoyed both films. Now I own my own copies.
I will leave the movie reviews to someone else. I highly recommend buying this double feature if you don't own these 2 videos.

Had to re-purchase
I had one of these movies but watched so much It just stopped working "V" love it!! you must watch both!

Silmido (The Basters)

True Story
This is a VERY true story about a South Korean special forces unit that was drafted and brutally trained for one mission. To kill Kim Il-Song. These men were criminals and other sorts of undesireables. They trained for years, and by the time they were supposed to go on their mission South Korea and the U.N. were trying to broker peace so the unit was called back from their mission. The commander of the unit was given word to "disapear" the unit when the South Korean government and the U.N. were trying to broker peace in fear that if the North found out about the unit the peace would not happen. The soldiers revolted and killed nearly all of their trainers. They had found out that their identities and their past lives had been erased so they wanted the South Korean people to know that they were still people and they were still alive. They got right outside of Seoul (the capital) when they were intercepted by regular army that was sent there to kill them. They went down in an...

One of top 10 Korean movies of this decade
This is a very good movie that most people will enjoy.

Set in late 1960s Korea when it was still one of the poorer nations on earth, Silmido is about 20 or so men condemned to death for their crimes against society who are offered a chance to redeem themselves by participating in hell commando training to assassinate the leader of North Korea.

40 years ago, Korea was under a strict military dictatorship and the presence of harsh military rule was present everywhere. The criminal justice system had little tolerance for violent criminals and it routinely sentenced many people to death for crimes that will get fewer than 10 years today. Korea was dirt poor and life was dirt cheap. Although it was also a time of strong industrial growth, the military and the Korea Central Intelligence Agency could routinely get away with murder.

What is interesting is how the hardened criminals become such capable and disciplined soldiers. Their regimen and training can...

Controversial Dramatic True Event
Films based a true event can confuse the viewer at times. Where does the truth begin and where does it end; and when does fiction actually begin? Added fictional details have been utilized to make a film more exciting and arguably entertaining. I would advise those who see the blockbuster Korean hit "SILMIDO" to read about the real incident that occurred in 1968, but do not read the true history behind it before watching this film since it may ruin its experience. Following the successes of blockbuster hits such as "Shiri" and "Tae Guk Gi", the film is about the tensions between North and South Korea and how one incident caused a lot of controversy in South Korea.

In 1968, a North Korean commando unit crosses the border in an attempt to assassinate then South Korean President Park Chung-hee. They were intercepted by the S. Korean military and prevents the mission's success. The scandal of this incident however, angers the South Korean side and decides to replicate the...
